They knew they were safe in class because adults would control the situation. There was no social media back then, and people bullying them online. No one could take a photo of them if they did something clumsy and shame them to others. They were free to be a kid, and learn in school with no cell phone distractions. Plus they had plenty of outside time to play and use their imagination after school to work off any energy.
