I understand what you’re saying. I was talking about people who go off their medication. People that are getting their mental health issues treated through therapy and medication are fine and can have a successful marriage. The problems start when they go off their medication and behave erratically. That affects their partner. I have a friend who suffers greatly from her bipolar husband whenever he goes off his meds.

As for addictions like alcoholism, being married to one who never gets help for it, is a nightmare. I know this firsthand. Untreated alcoholism destroyed my marriage.

People who get help and get treated for these problems can make a relationship work. It’s the ones that don’t, that are difficult to live with.
